20 Gifts of the Wyrd: Connla Freyjason Interview
Saturday Jun 16, 2018
Saturday Jun 16, 2018
Jan interviews author Connla Freyjason about his book Norse Witch: Claiming the Heidhrinn Heart. This book is on the wave of a movement of encouraging those of the Heathen practices to embrace their relationships with the 9 Worlds in a modern context.
If you are tired of hearing "you're doing it wrong" by others, this is a book that will inspire you to build on the things we can piece together from the lore and archeological finds to develop thriving relationships with the Gods, the vaettir, and the ancestors. Through active participation, we use the gnosis (experience and knowledge) we gain through those relationships to create and engage in meaningful practices today.
We touch on other topics and discuss the upcoming release of Blessings of Fire and Ice, a devotional companion in the Norse Witch series. Norse Witch is available on Amazon. #NorseWitch #BlessingsofFireandIce

18 Gifts of the Wyrd Ostara/Eostre
Monday Mar 19, 2018
Monday Mar 19, 2018
Was a Germanic goddess Eostre or Ostara ever honored in the old days? Are Easter and the German 'Ostern' named after her? Does the widespread Easter lore have roots in ancient pagan rituals? The answers to these questions are disputed among both laymen and scholars. Often it can be hard to distinguish between faith and facts. Therefore, the available sources have been brought together in this book and offered with explanatory notes. However, it is left to the reader to consider whether in Germany a goddess Ostara, Eostar or Ostera was worshiped as was Eostre in England.
In this episode, Jan discusses the book by GardenStone for Ostara.
Eostre Ostara Eostar by GardenStone is available from GardenStone's website and on Amazon.

11 Gifts of the Wyrd: Viking Oracle Review
Saturday Jul 08, 2017
Saturday Jul 08, 2017
And we're back. After a 6 month hiatus, I'm pleased to be recording the podcast again. It's been a hectic spring and beginning of summer with computer issues, travel, and family things to work out. So it has delayed the timing and ability to record. But things have settled glad to ge the podcast going.
A huge note of thanks to Xander Folmer of Hughinn's Heathen Hof for the amazing logo and banners created for Gifts of the Wyrd. They are amazing and beautiful. I am really pleased with the image and working with him is amazing. Contact Xan for graphic design ideas and work you may need.
This episode we get caught up and comment about issues within the Heathen community regarding some groups choosing to make their Heathenry exclusive to those who do not fit their vision of a white, heterosexual, of certain European heritage, or other ways to exclude on immutable traits. Gifts of the Wyrd does not engage in that and stands by an inclusive Heathen practice with many other amazing groups and people. Together we can create safe spaces for people to learn, grow, worship, fellowship, and find community and allies.
Review of the Viking Oracle: The Viking Oracle is by Stacey Demarco with artwork by Jimmy Manton and published by Blue Angel Publishing.
After a little catch up session, I review the Viking Oracle. This will be a long episode, so it's ok to take some breaks at the natural stopping poings. About 25 minutes in or so will start the review. The next stopping point will be at about 43 minutes in with a music piece. Then finish out the remaining 40 minutes or so with discussion about the oracle deck. The deck review will be in three parts.
Introduction to the deck and artwork overall, the runes of the deck and the oracle part of the deck.
I hope you find this helpful with your decision about this deck.

9 Gifts of the Wyrd: Yule Traditions Old and New
Saturday Dec 24, 2016
Saturday Dec 24, 2016
Welcome to episode 9 of Gifts of the Wyrd. Thank you for your patience for this episode. Jan talks about Yule. Old traditions and new. Adapting traditions to modern practice or making new Yule traditions that are right for you and your family today.
A traditional song to sing around an apple or adapt to another fruit or nut bearing tree. (I have changed only a couple words of the text to honor the Gods and to make it inclusive to all who will sing.).
Old Apple tree, we'll wassail thee
And hoping thou wilt bear.
The Gods do know where we may go
To be merry another year.
To blow well and to bear well,
And so merry let us be:
Let every one drink up their cup
And health to the old apple tree.
(shouted)Old apple tree we wassail thee and hope that thou wilt bear. Apples now! Hats full! Caps Full! Three bushel bags full! And a little heap under the stair. Three Cheers for the old apple tree - Hip hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

8 Gifts of the Wyrd: Heathen Practices
Monday Oct 03, 2016
Monday Oct 03, 2016
Welcome to episode 8. Thank you for joining us. This episode Laine and I talk about Heathenry in general. We touch on 3 short topics that we think are important to Heathen practice.
1) Inclusive vs exclusive Heathenry. Recently a prominent Asatru organization specified the qualifications for their membership – white, straight, and “family” oriented. We discuss the importance of inclusivity and welcoming people of all races, orientation, gender identity, abilities, and cultural backgrounds to worship and work with the Gods.
2) Localizing your Heathenry. Develop practices and traditions based on where you are and the natural cycle of events that happen around you. This may mean doing things at slightly different times than other regions do as well as honoring the natural events that occur.
3) Writing prayer devotionals and poetry/praise to the Gods and Goddesses. Ever seen that really neat poem or prayer as part of a ritual in a book. Or as part of a ‘book of prayer’? We encourage you to make your own. Start with just a few lines and add more if you like. This is your gift to the Gods – sharing with others is up to you. What is key to remember, is that this is your connection to the God or Goddess you write the piece for.
Thanks for listening.

Episode 4, Jan and Laine discuss the modernization of Heathen ritual styles. We talk about blót and the varying style of an animal offering and other offerings, sumbels, ritual structure, and rites of passage. We also include a discussion about online sumbel and blót. Tuesday Mar 22, 2016
Tuesday Mar 22, 2016
Episode 3: This episode Jan and Laine discuss divination and the modern practice of gnosis. During the section on divination, we talk about using runes for ourselves and as part of reading for others. We also discuss Spae and Seidh and our experiences in learning and doing it.
This leads into a discussion of "gnosis" in today's practice. What is UPG (unverified personal gnosis), shared gnosis, and m.u.s (made up sh - er stuff)? Is UPG valid and useful today?
